On a previous post, blogger Xena commented “The love of money….” That comment rings so true when it comes to the story below. It’s amazing the lengths that people will go through to get their hands on a few dollars. Check out the story below and if you choose to search for the hidden treasure…watch your step!

Acording to NY Daily News:
“The body of a Colorado pastor was found near the Rio Grande after he traveled to New Mexico to search for the hidden Forrest Fenn treasure, police said.
Paris Wallace, a pastor at Connection Church in Grand Junction, was reported missing by his wife Wednesday after he failed to show up to a meeting.
Authorities said Wallace had traveled to New Mexico on Monday to search for treasure famed author Forrest Fenn claims he hid somewhere in the Rocky Mountains in 2010. It’s believed the trove of gems and jewels is worth $2 million.”

According to CBS, police found Wallace’s car near the Taos Junction Bridge. A torn rope was found a short distance from the vehicle stretched across a tributary of the Rio Grande. His body was found about seven miles downstream.

Inside Wallace’s car were receipts for rope and other supplies the treasure seeker supposedly used to help him look for the hidden fortune.
In a statement to “CBS This Morning,” Fenn called Wallace’s death a “tragedy.”

“My heart and my prayers go out to his family and his church,” he said.

Below is the poem with the nine clues from “The Thrill of the Chase,” Fenn’s self-published autobiography:

As I have gone alone in there

And with my treasures bold,

I can keep my secret where,

And hint of riches new and old.

Begin it where warm waters halt

And take it in the canyon down,

Not far, but too far to walk.

Put in below the home of Brown.

From there it’s no place for the meek,

The end is drawing ever nigh;

There’ll be no paddle up your creek,

Just heavy loads and water high.

If you’ve been wise and found the blaze,

Look quickly down, your quest to cease

But tarry scant with marvel gaze,

Just take the chest and go in peace.

So why is it that I must go

And leave my trove for all to seek?

The answers I already know

I’ve done it tired, and now I’m weak

So hear me all and listen good,

Your effort will be worth the cold.

If you are brave and in the wood

I give you title to the gold.

Happy hunting!

  1. It’s not worth it. God provides all of our needs according to his riches in glory. Seeking more than we need can lead to death. My condolences to Wallace’s family and friends.
