TYLER PERRY ON THAT GRASS: I’VE GOT PROOF!

I know this is not what a lot of you are expecting but if you stay with me here, you will really enjoy this.  As I’ve said before, I am on Tyler Perry’s mailing list.  He sent out this letter yesterday and if you read it, I think you will really enjoy his perspective here.  I was really blessed by it and I’m hoping you will be as well.

Hey TJ

I was talking to a friend of mine the other day, and she was explaining to me how disappointed she was in people and the things that they do and have done to her. She went on and on about how upset and heartbroken she was, and has been, about some of her family and friends. She talked about how they hurt her and how she wished they would change and be better people. She wanted them to be different than the people they were.

Halfway through this complaint-a-thon, I asked her to take a walk with me in the backyard. Now, you have to know this particular friend of mine. She hates the heat, and it was a hot day. I said, “come on” so she reluctantly came with me.

We got outside and it was steaming hot. I could see that she was uncomfortable. Nevertheless, we kept walking around my backyard. As she was still complaining about people, I asked her what she thought of my grass. Mind you, in order to appreciate the grass you had to stand in the direct sunlight. She said “Wow, I love your grass. It’s beautiful, but it’s hot right here. Let’s cool off under that oak tree over there.”

So, as she started to walk to the tree I said, “No no, let’s stay here in the grass and cool off.”

She turned to me quickly and said, “We can’t cool off on this grass.”

Right then, I said to her, “But you just said the grass was beautiful.”

“I did” she replied. Then, I asked her, “Why won’t you stay here?” She said, because she was hot and the grass couldn’t cool her off. So, we walked over to the oak tree and sat there.

She said, “Now you see? This is what I needed.”

Then I asked her this question. “The grass was beautiful. You loved it. Why didn’t you get mad with the grass because it couldn’t provide the shade you wanted?

She was confused, so I went on to explain myself. “People in this world, whether they were created a certain way or became that way through life’s circumstances, are who they are. Stop wishing they will be someone else.”

I said, “The next time you get upset with someone because they can’t do, or can’t be what you want them to be, remember the grass. Never get mad at a blade of grass because it’s not a tree. Appreciate the grass for what it is. Let it provide to you what it can, but don’t expect more. Your life will get so much easier when you start letting people be who they are and stop expecting them to give you what they don’t have or don’t know how to give. Just like that grass couldn’t provide shade because it wasn’t made to, some people are not made to give you what you’re asking for. So, stop looking for it. You will be shocked at how much peace you find when you really get this.”

And the last thing I said to her was this. “You wouldn’t be so frustrated with people who are like the grass if you had more people who are like trees in your life.”

I could really go deep into this, but I gotta go back to work. Talk to me. What do you think?

Love y’all. Talk soon.

MEMORIAL DAY: WHAT A MESS

Memorial day is a time to honor our veterans yet there is at least one community that is outraged at a fraud by one of their neighbors.  The guy in this video is apparently perpetrating a fraud and is now being exposed.  There are a lot of people who are now cynical about giving because of people like this.  A non-profit that built a specially-adapted house for wounded Army veteran Justin Perez-Gorda is now ‘weighing its options’, after  stories of the severity of his injuries are now in question.  Perez-Gorda has been seen walking by several neighbors and has even been caught on film unloading wood from his SUV.  I won’t insult you with anymore of the details as you can watch the video for yourself. Passed: To qualify for the home, Perez-Gorda (right) completed the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs grant process and passed a background check

Home: In December 2013, the organization, which builds specially adapted, mortgage-free homes for severely injured war veterans, presented the family with a customized home in Dripping Springs, Texas

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND!!!

Ok, it’s Memorial Day Weekend and some people have scheduled travel, a barbeque, a golf outing, etc. Though all of these activities are a great way to relax over this typically long weekend, many tend to forget or not even know what this day is all about. Memorial Day is celebrated on the last Monday in May, on which those who died in active military service are remembered.
Too many of us fail to realize that our freedom is not so free. There’s been untold carnage paving the way for us to be able to enjoy our casual “freedoms”. As you head out to your particular event, take the time this weekend to remember some of the lives that have been lost. Celebrate and have a great time and please…
DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE!!! As they say, the life you save, may be your own.

As a tribute to those who have lost their lives defending this country, AMERICA, I am posting this video of one of the greatest voices of our time singing the most memorable version of THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER that I’ve ever heard. Whitney Houston first sang her flawless version of our National Anthem before Super Bowl XXV on Jan. 27, 1991 in Tampa, Florida.
In the video above, Whitney sings her heart out for the troops live at her 1991 “Welcome Home Heroes” concert in Norfolk, Virginia, USA.
In her memory and in the memory of those whose blood has been shed to defend our freedoms, I leave you with this post.

MOTIVATIONAL MOMENT… YOU ARE MY FRIEND

Here we go again.  I believe that this is what I’m supposed to post today.  This morning when I checked my inbox these two items appeared.  One was from loyal reader A. Renae (Patti Labelle’s first video – YOU ARE MY FRIEND) and the other was from Bible Gateway with my word for the day.  I think they go together.  Let this be your motivational moment for this day 5/21/2015.

1 Corinthians 1:10 NIV I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.

Basically…. STOP TRIPPING!  Far too many people spend too much of their time in other people’s affairs looking for the negative things that they can find.  Another scripture asks the question:  How can you see the dust in someone else’s eye and not see the plank in your own.  This word of the day really motivated me today in so many ways.

WHY SOME CHURCH PEOPLE GET ON MY NERVES…

You’ve got to check this guy out.  His name is Willie Moore Jr. and he is hosting a radio show in Atlanta in the evenings.  This young guy is motivational, funny, and “flat out” spiritual.  I listen to him so much that I had to look him up.  He is even more hilarious in his Youtube videos than he is on the radio (102.5 FM).  So here he is talking about “Why Church People Get On My Nerves.”  You’ve got to enjoy this. Oh, and this will not be the last time you’ll see him here.  Too funny…….

PREACH

There’s a new preacher’s reality show coming to Lifetime and I’m not sure what to say about the above trailer.  There are four “prophetesses” in this particular show.  They are:  Belinda Scott (Cleveland Heights, Ohio); Taketa Williams (Columbus, Ohio); Linda Roark (Trenton, Ohio); and Kelly Crews (Cleveland, Ohio).

“Preach” is the latest Christianity-based offering of  reality shows.  There was TLC’s “The Sisterhood” (cancelled after one season), Oxygen’s Preachers of LA (my favorite), and the spinoff Preacher’s of Detroit (I also like). Lifetime has also been showing “Preacher’s Daughtrers” for three seasons.  Check out the trailer above and let me know if you’ll be watching…..

GEORGE ZIMMERMAN SHOT

George Zimmerman sits in Seminole circuit court during his trial in Sanford, Fla. Wednesday, July 10, 2013. Zimmerman has been charged with second-degree murder for the 2012 shooting death of Trayvon Martin. (AP Photo/Orlando Sentinel, Gary W. Green, Pool)

Information is still sketchy at this time but several news agencies are reporting that Zimmerman has been shot.  Apparently another man and Zimmerman were involved in this latest incident that happened on Lake Mary Boulevard in Lake Mary Florida.

George Zimmerman is known for the shooting of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin on February 26, 2012, in Sanford, Florida. On July 13, 2013, he was acquitted of second-degree murder in Florida v. George Zimmerman.

According to reports, officers at the scene are reporting that Zimmerman suffered a minor gunshot to the face.

As indicated before, details are sketchy but different news sources are reporting different things.  A “road rage incident” and an ongoing dispute are two of the possible motives floating around at this time.  There are also reports that a bullet hole could be seen in Zimmerman’s passenger window.

Reports are that Zimmerman was able to “walk normally” to an ambulance.   More information will be forthcoming as soon as it becomes available,

MAYWEATHER WINS BY UNANIMOUS DECISON

mayweather

mayweather 1

Mayweather  threw 435 punches and 138 of them landed.  Pacquiao threw  429 punches and landed  81.  By a unanimous decision, MAYWEATHER won and is now 48-0 as he looks to retire after his final fight in September.  There are some skeptics who believed that his talk of retirement would get in the way of Mayweather mentally preparing for last night’s star-studded event but Mayweather was certainly prepared.

After the loss Pacquiao, who now has 57 wins, six losses and two draws blamed an injury to his shoulder for his defeat.

WBO welterweight, WBC, and WBA are now the titles held by Mayweather as he was awarded the fight by the three judges; 118-110, 116-112, and 116-112.

Jamie Foxx sang the National Anthem before the fight began.  A lot of people complained.  I understand.

Sorry, but I’m out of time to write about this.  I just can’t wait to get back to work tomorrow to hear the silence from some of those who told me how foolish I was to believe that Mayweather would win.  It’s a good thing that I’m not a betting man.  I would have taken their money.  But the real money goes to Mayweather who’s getting the bigger share of the $230 million jackpot for the “fight of the century”.
