I remember quite vividly the words Whitney Houston sang in song “The Greatest Love of All”. She sang: “I believe the children are our future………” Ok, wait just one minute! I hope our future does not look as bleak as the story of these two brothers who tried unsuccessfully to murder their parents. It is so fortunate that their father was able to distract them long enough for their mother to call 911. This all took place at their Snellville,Georgia home.
Police say Yvonne Ervin called 911 around 7:49 a.m. and told emergency dispatchers her sons Cameron, 17, and Christopher Ervin, 22, were trying to kill her and her husband Zachary Ervin.
Yvonne told police her husband distracted her sons so she could call 911.
Gwinnett County police says officers found Zachary and one of the sons outside the home. Zachary was severely injured and bleeding heavily.
Officers found Yvonne with the other son inside the home. Police say she was also severely injured.
Police say they noticed the gas line had been tampered with and suspect the sons tried to burn the house down.
Both parents were transported to a hospital, and both sons were transported to police headquarters.
According to police both sons were cooperative with police interviews, and are in custody at the Gwinnett County Detention Center.
The Ervin family appeared to be a happy family for the four years Clint Miller lived next door to them in Gwinnett County.
“You would never even expect that,” Miller said. “They’re just an every day normal family in the neighborhood.”
Cameron and Christopher Ervin are charged with two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of first-degree arson.
