IS THE TIGER IS ABOUT TO ROAR?

A wave of excitement has hit the city of Greensboro, NC as Tiger Woods made his way to town for the Wyndham Championship at the Sedgefield Country Club. Woods, who entered Saturday with a share of the lead with Jason Gore, is now 2 strokes behind Gore. Ina statement, Woods had the following to say: “I need to go out there tomorrow and make a run and get myself up there and make some birdies,” Woods said. “There’s a bunch of guys … at 13 [under]. There’s a whole slew of guys at 12, 11, 10 [under]. Anybody can make a run and shoot the score Jason and Jonas [Blixt] did.”

Tiger is in a position to win his first PGA Tour event in more than two years. This is Woods’ event of the year and one that he must win or at least tie for second to qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs. If current projections hold true, Woods would have to place at least 2nd to make it to the Barklays next week.  I really hope to update this post with a win for Tiger Woods.  Thanks to loyal reader LD for sending me a few of the pictures he took while attending yesterday.

SERENA @19

serena outfit 2015

I’ll mark this post as my first official BLACK HISTORY post of 2015.

Serena Williams now has19 Grand Slam titles under her belt.  She had been tied with Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova at 18 each.  Her win yesterday over Maria Sharapova in the Women’s Final of the 2015 Australian Open marks her 6th win there.  It is always so interesting watching her play.  The loud grunts/screams are a distraction to some but nonetheless seems par for the course nowadays.  Serena  not only was a hit on the court with her outfit, she was also a big hit with her winning speech afterwards:  “Growing up I wasn’t the richest, but I had a rich family in spirit and support. Standing here with 19 championships is something I never thought would happen. I went on court with a ball, a racquet and hope, that’s all I had. And it’s an inspiration for you guys who want to be the best – you can be, never give up and you don’t know who you can inspire.”

She has and continue to inspire hope in millions around the world.  Hopefully there’ll be many more opportunities to report on her winning ways.  Serena will definitely go down in history as one of the greatest, if not the greatest women tennis players of all time!

THE KING OF BASEBALL – BARRY BONDS

3105188RL_D016763011
One of baseball’s greats is back in the game, at least briefly. His name is Barry Lamar Bonds. Bonds spent this past week as a special hitting coach during Spring Training for his former team, the San Francisco Giants.
He spent 22 seasons in Major League Baseball. The two teams he played for were the Pittsburg Pirates (7 years) and the San Francisco Giants (15 years). His father, the legendary Bobby Bonds, is also a former major league All-Star.
Bonds set Major League on fire with his “too quiet for the media demeanor”. Many critics (haters) found him to be arrogant. Yet Bonds, put on a show for his critics with regularity. Barry Bonds was a 14-time All-Star and an 8-time Gold Glove Award winner.
Though Bonds has not played since 2007, he is still the reigning “King of Baseball”. He made history when he broke Hank Aaron’s record of 755 on August 7th, 2007. He still holds many records including most career home runs (762), most home runs in a single season (73, set in 2001), most career walks (2,558), and most career intentional walks (688). Even though many have tried to paint a negative picture of this great athlete with talks of steroid usage, he has never been convicted of the same. He won the National League (NL) Most Valuable Player Award seven times, including four consecutively, both of which are records.

WHY IS THIS A STORY???

*Offensive lineman Richie Incognito, who was at the center of the Miami Dolphins bullying scandal, for some reason took a baseball bat to his Ferrari, damaging the hood and grill, according to the Scottsdale (Ariz.) Police Department.
The title listed above and the story printed below is an article I found at eurweb.com. What’s confusing about the entire deal is that I don’t understand why this is news. If I own anything, it is mine and I can do with it what I will or may. Others may or may not like it, but it is not their business. When I saw the story, I was amazed that someone had taken the time to even print it. And now… I’m doing the same thing. Wow!!!
fERRARI
Sgt. Mark Clark said the police became aware of this situation after TMZ brought it to their attention Wednesday afternoon. He said the Dolphins guard took responsibility when police contacted him Thursday.
“They provided us with a photo of a damaged car and reported it to belong to Mr. Incognito, and they gave us an address,” Clark said. “We went out there and checked to see if there was a damaged car there. There was no car and no one answered the door.
“We went out there again this morning and we were able to contact Mr. Incognito and he reported that he damaged his own car and didn’t need any police help or report.”
Clark said further details are unavailable because no crime was reported and added that Scottsdale police are done with the matter.
Pictures and video posted by TMZ show the Ferrari, valued around $300,000, smashed on the hood and grill with a baseball bat lying nearby. A part of the bat is shown lodged in the car’s grille. TMZ reported there were red shirts hanging from the car with Incognito’s name written on them.
On Feb. 14, NFL investigator Ted Wells released his report which found that Incognito, guard John Jerry and center Mike Pouncey bullied and harassed tackle Jonathan Martin and others within the Dolphins organization.
According to the Palm Beach Post, TMZ also reported that Incognito’s parents have filed for divorce. In the divorce documents, Incognito’s dad said that the soon-to-be-former Dolphins guard supports the entire family financially.
Incognito is a free agent and will not return to Miami. He could still face a league suspension.

BACK IN THE WOODS

Tiger Woods is in the news again. This time it is not because of his accomplishments but because his niece, Cheyenne Woods, has just won the Australian Ladies Masters. I guess this is her way of carrying on the family name. Check out the story below.

According to the Associated Press:
GOLD COAST, Australia (AP) — Cheyenne Woods won the Australian Ladies Masters on Sunday for her first major professional tour victory, holding off 17-year-old Australian amateur Minjee Lee by two strokes.
The 23-year-old Woods, Tiger Woods’ niece, closed with a 4-under 69 at Royal Pines to finish at 16-under 276. Lee also shot 69 in the event sanctioned by the European and Australian tours.
Woods birdied the par-5 15th to open a two-stroke lead, hitting a wedge from about 120 yards to 4 feet. On the par-5 18th, she matched Lee with a birdie, holing out from 1 1/2 feet.
”This is a huge accomplishment for me,” Woods said. ”The European Tour has been great to be able to play this past year. I’ve been able to see all of these great players, play with Solheim Cup members … to be able to come out here and compete with them and come out on top was huge for me.”

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS WIN 43-8

Seattle
sea
The Seattle Seahawks marginalized the Denver Broncos by a score of 43-8 to win 2014 Super Bowl XLVIII.
It was the defense who dominated this game and defense wins championships. The likes of a defense like Seattle’s has not been see NFL has not seen for some time now in the NFL. Millions of people never gave Seattle a chance but they won their first ever Super Bowl overwhelmingly. Statistically the NFL’s most tight-fisted defense, never gave Manning the chance to get going in tis lop-sided game.

BASKETBALL DIPLOMACY

Dennis Rodman
Kenny Anderson, Cliff Robinson, Vin Baker, Craig Hodges, Charles Smith, and Doug Christie are the former NBA All-Stars that Dennis Rodman has named to participate in an exhibition Basketball game in Pyongyang, North Korea. This team will pay on Kim Jong Un’s birthday, Jan. 8 against a top North Korean Senior National team.
Rodman has been criticized for his affiliation with North Korea and not talking about one of the world’s worst in terms of human rights records.

SERENA’S 58TH CAREER TITLE

This is a brand new year but for Serena Williams… she’s looking for the same or better results. Obviously there is no slowing down in sight for the No. 1 tennis player in the world. She just defended her title at the Brisbane International. She defeated Victoria Azarenka
6-4, 7-5. Last year Serena had a 78-4 record and won 11 titles. This win was her 58th career title.
