You’d probably have to go to Venus to create a story like this. Well….. that’s exactly what I’m talking about here. Venus….. and Serena Williams. They are the out-of-this–world tennis sensations that have been blazing a trail for the better part of the last two decades.
Both of the Williams sisters won their semifinal matches today at the Australian Open, thereby setting up their historic ninth Grand Slam. The two of them share a home in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida so both trophies will be housed under the same roof.
Serena will be vying for her 23rd Grand Slam title (more than anyone else in the open era). Venus will be competing for her eighth. The two of them have more titles than any other active women.
Their last final was at Wimbledon in 2009. That was Venus’ last major final. I love both of these women but I’d really love for Serena to win this one so that she can break Steffi Graf’s record of 22 grand slams. That would put her just one behind the 24 of Margaret Court.
So far Serena has won 6 Australian Open Titles, 3 French Open Titles, 7 Wimbledon Titles, and 6 US Open Titles.
Venus has won 5 Wimbledon Titles and 2 US Open Titles.
