The above poem is by Langston Hughes (February 1, 1902 – May 22, 1967). Hughes was a poet, playwright, novelist, and a social activist. He has a number of poems that are extremely outstanding including Ballad of the Landlord.
Listed below are just a few of the quotes he is known for:
1. What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up Like a raisin in the sun?… Or does it explode?
2. Let the rain kiss you. Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops. Let the rain sing you a lullaby.
3. I have discovered in life that there are ways of getting almost anywhere you want to go, if you really want to go.
Powerball winner Marie Holmes became infamous for bailing out her boyfriendLamarr “Hot Sauce” McDow four separate times. Now the lotto winner is being sued by her pastor for allegedly not fulfilling an oral agreement to give him $1.5 million to build a retreat facility. This Pastor, Kevin Matthews, is apparently off his medication. No one owes him any money for anything. Too many of these “pastors” are after money and will do anything to get it. According to Black America Web:
The 27-year-old mother of two took home a $127 million lump sum payment following her lottery win in February, 2015.
Pastor Kevin Matthews says he is experiencing emotional and mental distress due to her backing down from a verbal contract they had regarding $1.5 million to purchase land to build a retreat facility.
“Because of the emotional distress and mental stress, they put me through, I had to start taking more medicine for anxiety and depression due to this situation,” says Pastor Kevin Matthews.
Holmes’ attorney, Ruth Sheehan, of The Francis Law Firm, said she was not aware of the situation or the lawsuit. In a recent interview with EURweb, Pastor Matthews says: “God led him to her house and he prayed with her.”
He later met Holmes and ministered to her on several occasions at her new home. He also said he ministered to three other people at her home, and then he eventually asked her to consider giving him money to purchase land to build a retreat. He gave her three different amounts that he needed ($1 million, $1.5 million and $2 million). After several meetings, she agreed to give him $1.5 million to help purchase land to build a retreat center that he says he had been praying about for years.
I think we have all heard the Walter Scott quote that says “oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.” This quote really rang true recently in New York. According to police reports, 17 year old Zachary Sam met Phillip Pierre online regarding the purchase of a pair of Jordan Retro 8 sneakers. The two met and Sam got into Pierre’s vehicle. Sam allegedly pulled out a gun and stole the sneakers from Pierre and then walked away. Apparently adrenaline kicked in and 39 year old Phillip Pierre made a U-turn, and struck the teen with his Honda Pilot. The teen was pinned against the fence and his right arm was completely severed.
The teen tried to jump on an oncoming bus. As Sam got on the bus, he was yanked off by Pierre but managed to get away. Zachary Sam escaped the grasp of the elder Pierre and ran home where he collapsed.
Sam and his severed arm were taken by ambulance to the hospital where he is in stable condition. No word yet as to whether his arm was able to be attached.
Pierre, on the other hand/arm (pun intended) has been arrested for attempted murder. It is going to be interesting to see whether Pierre will be convicted of this crime. I’m sure that there are arguments on both sides but personally I feel that this man should be set free.
I’m sure that attorneys are lined up at the door of the teen Zachary Sam to say that the punishment does not fit the crime. I beg to differ. I think that Pierre definitely acted in the heat of passion even though this teen was no longer a threat to him. Pierre had just been robbed and the problem for him is that he took matters in his own hand instead of getting the cops involved. How many of us would have acted the same given the circumstances? Let me know your thoughts on this one. It is certainly going to be the topic of conversation for a while.
Is a pair of Air Jordan’s worth all of this unnecessary drama? I think not.
Last night, ahead of Super Bowl 50, the NFL presented its yearly awards that shine light on the best coaches and players of the season. The CAROLINA PANTHERS walked away with top honors. The awards were presented at the NFL HONORS awards show. The winners list shapes up as follows:

I may be biased because the Carolina Panthers are one of my favorite NFL teams, but I hope these top awards translate into a victory today at Super Bowl 50 as they face Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos. The game begins at 6:30 EST. Lady Gaga will be singing the National Anthem and the halftime show will feature Coldplay, Beyonce’, and Bruno Mars.
Here’s my pick for the winner of Super Bowl 50 which will be played February 7, 6:30pm EST. It’s early and I will write more about this later. I just wanted to put my name in the for the team that I’m supporting ….
