Yesterday, after watching the Atlanta Falcons lose to the New Orleans Saints, I wanted to see one of my favorites win. Sooooo, I switched the channel and watched the tennis finals of the Women’s US Open. Serena Williams was playing Victoria Azarenka. She did not disappoint. The ball ultimately bounced in Serena’s favor to the tune of 3.6 million dollars. This was her fifth U S Open title and with the win, has placed her name in the midst of some of greatest tennis players of all time.
2013 US Open - Day 14
Williams has won twice in a row at Flushing Meadows – beating Azarenka in three sets each time – and four of the past six major tournaments overall. Her 17 titles are the sixth-most in history for a woman, only one behind Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert, and the same total as the men’s record-holder, Roger Federer.
